Artificial Sweetner Free Protein Bar Review #1

So how's it goin?
So randomly I got an idea to do a little review/ testing of my own. I was at the grocery store yesterday with my mom and really wanted some protein bars and so then this happened :)

I really enjoy eating protein bars. I really do.
I know some people think that you shouldn't eat them for meals and eating real food is better. I can totally agree with this but it still doesn't change the fact that some protein bars are just plain yummy :) ( i might be weird, but I really do like some of them)
Sometimes I really just want a good protein bar for lunch or a snack.

The only problem is that so many of them are completely filled with tons or artificial sweeteners and I am actually slightly allergic/ intolerant of sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame, etc.
My stomach bloats and I just feel horrible.

So I am on a quest to find some awesome protein bars that are all natural (kind of), healthy and most importantly delicious :)

I hope you enjoy!
Day 1 - Power Crunch Protein Energy Bar - Cookies & Cream

Nutrition Facts -
  • 205 calories
  • 14 g of protein
  • 5 g of sugar

Scoring :) on a scale from 1 to 10
Taste - 6/10

  • The taste was pretty good. It tasted like a white chocolate wafer basically. The only reason why the score wasn't higher was because the filling sometimes tasted kind of chalky. I really did enjoy it but at times it just tasted dry.
Fullness after eating - 4/10

  • This bar really did not hold me at all. I was not really that satisfied after eating it. Like I needed a snack an hour to two hours after eating it. :/

Overall 6/10

  • The bar itself was pretty good and it tasted like a cookie really, but I just feel like a protein bar should feel me up more. That was the most disappointing thing about this bar.
So I might eat this bar again, especially if I am in the mood for something light and tasty but for right now it is not going to be my go to bar to fill me up.

Scales are such liars

So yall - I have come to the conclusion that scales are so worthless.
They truly do not tell you the truth,  I promise.
For the longest time I believed the scale, I knew that weight was a true display of your body composition. I was so wrong. Even though I have a degree in Exercise Science, I still believed the lie. I always wanted to number to go down. I put everything I had on getting the number down.
But I am learning, and it is so hard to believe, that the number is wrong.

As most of us know, muscle is more dense than fat.  Therefore, even though both are 5lbs, the muscle takes up a lot less space than the fat.

I have always known this but it wasn't until this past month that I really saw it and understood it for myself.

I started tracking my calories ( and making sure I was getting enough - because I tended to always only wanted to eat 1,200 which was not enough for my body)  and doing more strength training work.
I really felt like my body was changing and I was getting smaller. I could see my legs toning up and just felt firmer.
But then I got on the scale and I went up a pound. I could not understand.

It was crazy to me that I had been working so hard and eating the right things and I gained weight. I did not make sense, I felt smaller but I weighed more. I started to question what I was doing.

But at more job I have the blessing of having an Inbody. Basically what it does is measure your body fat percentage, tells you your BMR, Lean Mass and Fat Mass.
It is pretty awesome.
But to go on with they story, I got on it the first of June and decided to get on it again yesterday... and you know that... i had gained a pound in weight but what it really was that I had gained two pounds of muscle and lost one pound of fat.

So like I said, the scale is such a liar. - I am fitter and I am healthier - even though I weigh more.

And I am happy with that.

So throw away the scale because you know what- if you feel like what you are doing is making a difference and you are getting stronger than you probably are. And the scale is not going to show you that.

Bible study

So I am starting a bible study by Kelly Minter called No Other Gods.
I have gone through this study before, like maybe 4 years ago but thought it was time to go ahead and go through it again.
I really am feeling like I need to reconnect, and refocus on what is truly important, God.
I am still close but at the same time life is flying by me and I am trusting in other things rather that God.

Today was the first day I started but I already feel like I have a good take away point - My question to myself and to you is "What does God give graciously that I am looking for somewhere else?" Basically my question is asking - where are we going and what are we looking for that God already has. For example, for me I am always looking for acceptance
. God has already accepted me and I am a child of God, yet I constantly look for the acceptance of others. Find acceptance is an idol to me.
It is crazy to think about.

Just a thought for today - What are you putting before God?

Happy July 1

Hello again.
I am officially starting my blog again.

This time in my life is a kind of like a brand new start. I have been married for one year now, have a new job I love, and am truly starting to get into the rhythm of things. It feels so good to finally feel like I am getting into the swing of living.

So let's just start off with what's up. :)
My husband is away right now for training in the military so I have been living life alone.
It has been hard, but I feel like God gave me this time to grow. To grow in Him and also to grow in myself.
But I did get to see him 3 weeks ago for a small weekend and he is coming home in less than 2 weeks! I can not wait!!

I also wanted to say that I am LOVING the fitbit flex ! It is amazing. You have no idea how hard it is to get up to 10,000 steps. You truly have to intentionally go for a walk or workout to get your steps, which is amazing and such a great motivatior. If you have fit bit, message me so I can find you and we can compete with our steps. I am seriously addicted. Go buy one, you will LOVE it :)
